Marion Eli Posey, age 84, was born August 4,1931 at home in Eli, Texas. He was the youngest son of Sallie (Dennis) Posey and Samuel Dunbar Posey. Marion attended Memphis schools and graduated from Memphis High School in 1949. He graduated from West Texas State College in May of 1953 with a commercial art degree. In August of 1954, he received his Masters of Science Degree in School Administration. His Uncle Sam decided Marion needed to be in El Paso for the draft more than he needed to attend graduation. One of the few diplomas mailed to graduates in those days was Marion’s. Marion served in the United States Army at Fort Gordon in Augusta Georgia. He came home in April of 1956 on early release to plant cotton. While in the Army, Marion was a radio operator.
Marion was a farmer/rancher until his retirement. He operated a custom alfalfa hay business and cut and baled all kinds of hay in the surrounding area. The Memphis Chamber of Commerce named him farmer of the year and he served on the Lakeview Co-op Gin board of directors. He attended the First Baptist Church. Marion was a member of the 49’ers. A group of area MHS 1949 graduates and their spouses, who met once a month in Amarillo for lunch. He was the unofficial photographer. Marion attended these events for many years. He always had a story to tell. He played almost any instrument by ear and he was famous for his “Pick-a-note” style of playing the piano
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY – his parents, a brother Morgan Posey, and his beloved dog and retirement partner Ralf.
SURVIVORS – his wife of over 61 years Glenna Rae of Memphis; 3 daughters Shari Watson and husband Terry of Memphis, MariAnn Posey of Lubbock, Kari Amend and husband Chris of Midwest City, Oklahoma. Marion is also survived by an unofficial adopted son Dan Wolfcale and his wife KayDonna of Claude. Marion was Papaw to Tiffany Watson of Irving, Texas, Tyson Watson of Lubbock, Branden Watson of Stillwater Oklahoma, Ryder, Slater and Cannon Wolfcale of Claude.
