Linda and I played clarinet together for seven years in Shamrock schools. We started band in fifth grade under Willis Giddens, continuing through our junior high years and freshman in the high school band. Mr. Meisch came for our sophomore and junior years in band. And then, Michael Barry was our director for our senior year. Linda and I played in many clarinet trios and quartets for UIL and sat next to each other in the clarinet section. Our senior year, Linda was voted SHS Band Sweetheart. We had fun that night together on the football field and stage.
I always enjoyed bicycling up South Main Street to visit her just a few blocks away. In high school she lived on North Madden Street. I loved going to her parents' home for a sleepover. Mr. and Mrs. Brewer were really kind and sweet people.
When I visited my parents in Shamrock, it was always a pleasure to see Linda at City Hall. We had a nice phone conversation after I moved to Amarillo and was making plans for our Class of 1966 Fifty Year Reunion in July of 2016. Linda wasn't able to attend due to her health issues.
From our conversations and her Facebook postings, I know she loved her grandson!
