It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Johnny Wright Rhodes. Johnny, 73, left his earthly body November 30th, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
Johnny was born on April 17th, 1949 in Shamrock, Texas to Madelyn Lois Dougherty and John Thomas Rhodes. In 1981, he married the love of his life, Kathy Denise Hill. Johnny started with the City of Shamrock water department in 1970s and later became the City Manager where he devoted 35 years of service to the community he loved so dearly. After “retiring” from the City of Shamrock he began working for Wheeler County and continued diligently serving the community.
Johnny is survived by his wife Kathy Rhodes, son Dusty Rhodes and wife Robin; daughter Kristina Sanchez and husband Joe Bryan, and brother Thomas Eugene Rhodes. He is also survived by his grandchildren Madison Rhodes, Colton Rhodes and Hayden Herrick along with many nieces and nephews, a well as his life long friend Kirk Clay and numerous others.
While Johnny was a hard working man and a servant to his community, he was so much more. He was the loyal friend you would call when you needed a helping hand. He was the classic car fanatic and expert mechanic. He was a self proclaimed fair weather fisherman where he undoubtedly spent most of his time untangling himself and his grandchildren’s line. He was the witty jokester when you needed a laugh. Truly, a jack of all trades. Most of all, he was a family man. Johnny dedicated his life to his family who he cherished so deeply. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and an incredible Papa to his grandchildren. Johnny never missed an opportunity to let anyone in his life know what they meant to him. He never took life for granted and always found a way to crack a joke. Johnny was a light that would turn any dark room bright. He left behind a great legacy that will always be remembered and celebrated.
