Ernestine Haney was an amazing person. I was blessed to have her as a mother-in-law. I joined this family when I married her son, Reagan and brought 2 children along with me. Both Ernie and Harold “Big” accepted us as part of their family. My two older children were lucky to have her as a grandma as she showered them with the same affection as she did all the other grandkids. Moving to Claude with just the kids was an experience and a bit of a shock, coming from California and Hawaii. Ernie and Big made the adjustment a lot easier, and my children benefited from it so much. She supported me emotionally during the challenges of raising Elisa as a teenager-giving her the freedom I was afraid to give. So glad she didn’t mind being the passenger in the car when she was learning to drive. Making my son’s, Jesse, birthday special by sending him on a scavenger hunt with riddles all over Claude to end up at her house and finding a bicycle in her storm cellar. She helped so much with raising our two younger kids Jarrett and JennaRae, in Claude and out in California. She didn’t just become a mother-in-law ,she became my friend. All those Saturday morning Amarillo yard sales followed by going to lunch for Chinese and doing crafting with her brought a lot to my life while Reagan was gone. Leaving Claude was a little bittersweet, knowing leaving was the best decision for our family , I still worried that the younger children would not have the same relationship to her as the older ones, but Ernie made it a point to let all of us know how much she loved us. We will miss her so much.
