Dennis Richard Moore's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our dad, Dennis Richard Moore. We fought with him and for him until the end when he lost his battle with Covid. Throughout the past six weeks, the love, compassion, and sweet stories have helped us navigate this tragedy. Like all of you, we were praying for a miracle. There is a miracle in that he is in heaven and healed along with his beloved Momma, Daddy, and brothers, Jaime and Wendell. Jeret tells us, “In heaven, it’s Christmas every day.”
Our dad was born on December 4, 1951 to Spud and Mary Moore in Pampa, Texas. He lived his entire life in Wheeler, Texas, and was in the Wheeler High School class of 1970. Growing up, dad loved being on the farm and with his six siblings. As a teenager and young man, he was a avid collector - from coins to shoes to albums. He embraced photography and music.
The love of each other’s lives, Dennis married our mom, Kimberlee Fay Weldon, on June 16, 1980. He devoured mom’s cooking and was so proud of our her cafe. Together they raised six children. We were his pride and joy; he never missed an event and even videoed Jansen as an adult coaching. He was that kind of dad. Growing up, dad would leave for work at 3 am to mud log, return by 9 to work the fruit stand and later the cafe, and in the summer plow fields and farm. He always made time to play with his children. Dad was very competitive and enjoyed beating us at any game, but most recently, corn hole, sequence and catch phrase. Every summer, dad helped us train our turtles for the 4th of July turtle races. Dad also loved going to concerts and rooting for the San Antonio Spurs. Somewhere along the way, Dad became Jeret’s “Skipper,” and Jeret became known as dad’s “Captain”. Dad would say his greatest accomplishment was raising six good people.
Dad cherished his seven grandchildren tremendously and was their Papa Bear. Whether he was driving all the way to Wyoming to watch a basketball game, telling jokes, buying National Geographic books or holding them while they watched tv, nothing in this world gave dad greater happiness than his grandchildren.
Our parents are the epitome of love. Our mom gave our dad her kidney in the fall of 2020. He was so grateful and happy. It gave us more time with our dad, and for that, we will always be thankful. Dad instilled in us to always do what’s right - no matter what. He taught us to have compassion for others, make the best of each moment, and have fun with your family.
Our dad had a great life and will be remembered as selfless, loving and witty. He would not want you to cry; he would want you to tell a joke and listen to music on his behalf. The truth is that there is never enough time with our loved ones so hold onto them tightly, tell them you love them, and make fun memories.
It is not goodbye, but see you later, dad. Love you more.
