CLARENDON
SERVICES - Private family graveside services will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.
INTERMENT - Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Beloved father, grandfather, and uncle, Clyde D. Barker was ushered into the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 16, 2012.
Born to William F. Barker and Allie Consada La Fon-Barker on January 26, 1913 in Donley County (Community of Sunnyview, near Lelia Lake), Clyde was the last child of 7 born into this family. They lived in the Martin and Goodnight communities during his youth.
Clyde married Doris Hatley at the age of 21, on February 28, 1935, at the Donley County Courthouse in Clarendon, TX, officiated by Rev. S.R. McClung.
They raised their two daughters, Shirley and Vicki in Clarendon; then, relocated to California in 1955.
Clyde served in the U.S. Army for 1-1/2 years (1945-1946) and was stationed in Pusan, Korea before being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He spent the majority of his career in the grocery business, working for Farmer’s Exchange, Piggly Wiggly, Junior’s Food Market in Clarendon; then, in California for Safeway Stores, when he retired in 1968 in Turlock, CA.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Clarendon, TX; then, Indio, CA and Turlock, CA (over 40 years). His most recent years were spent in the Texas Hill Country – Wimberley, TX.
He was preceded in death by his spouse of almost 75 years, Doris, on December 7, 2009.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Shirley Barbour & Vicki Estey & son-in-law, David Estey (all of Wimberley, TX); 4 grandchildren, Shari Lee-Hill (and husband, Jim Hill) & Rick Lee of Los Angeles, CA; Craig (and wife, Kathy) Estey of Leesburg, VA; Brett Estey of Arlington, VA; 4 great-grandchildren also of Leesburg, VA; many nieces, nephews, cousins & 2 brothers-in-law and 1 sister-in-law.
REMARKS - Viewing & visitation will be Friday, April 20, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Robertson Funeral Directors, 212 South Sully, Clarendon, Texas.
MEMORIALS - may be sent to your local Alzheimer's Association in memory of Clyde.
