Bruce Wayne Merrell's Obituary
Bruce Wayne Merrell, 71, of Iowa Park, Texas died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in Dallas, Texas.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM, Monday, February 19, 2024 at Claude Cemetery in Claude, Texas with Jonathan Clubb, officiating. A memorial in Iowa Park is planned for a later date.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors in Clarendon, Texas.
Bruce was born February 8, 1953 in Motley County, Texas to Jack Merrell and Iva Johnson Merrell. He married Vicky Sanders on May 17, 1974 in Claude, Texas.
Bruce graduated from Claude High School in 1971. He attended Eastern New Mexico University where he played football and walked on to the soccer team. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University and a Master’s degree from Wayland Baptist University. Bruce was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iowa Park. He was a man that embodied, and lived, the definition of a servant leader. He spent his professional career serving as a teacher and coach for 36 years, working for Memphis ISD, Dalhart ISD, Rotan ISD, Wimberley ISD, Iowa Park ISD, and Vernon ISD. After his retirement from education, he worked for Rolling Plains Management as a driver for Sharp Lines Transportation. Bruce’s influences and impact on others reaches far and wide. He never met a stranger, and he could never go anywhere without knowing someone. He was known for his red hair, his quick wit and humor, his love for his students and athletes, and his undying love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Nolan and Winne Sanders; and one son, Derek Merrell.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky; daughters, Monica Clubb and husband, Jonathan; Stefanie Merrell; Jennifer Merrell; brother, Bill Merrell and wife Kay; Brother-in-law, Jimmy Sanders and wife Shawna; grandson, Ty Clubb; aunt, Mary Scott; uncle, Rex Johnson, and several nephews, nieces, and cousins who loved him dearly.
