Billy Ray Reeves' Obituary
McLEAN SERVICES - 2:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church in McLean with Rev. Thacker Haynes, Pastor, officiating. INTERMENT - Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean. ARRANGEMENTS - Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean. Bill Reeves, a native of McLean passed away on March 29, following a determined battle with cancer. He is survived by Lynn, his wife of 62 years. Bill was born on the family farm south of McLean on July 2, 1928 to Frank and Vivian Landrum Reeves. He joined the Navy in 1946 and was called back to duty during the Korean conflict where he was attached to the 1st Marine division as a corpsman. Bill’s career with the US Postal Service began in 1948 as a clerk in the McLean Post Office where he eventually became the town’s postmaster. He entered the Postal Inspection Service in 1964. This assignment took Bill and his family to the San Francisco Bay Area and later on to Washington, DC. Upon his retirement, Bill and Lynn relocated to the foothills of Reno, Nevada where they remained until moving back to their hometown of McLean in 1991. Bill was an appointed member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature where he traveled to Austin twice a year to discuss and advocate on behalf of senior citizens. He was a member of MENSA and enjoyed getting out and working with his cattle. Bill was not afraid to state his beliefs on any subject and would share his thoughts to anyone that would listen, or not. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McLean. OTHER SURVIVORS - sons John and wife Annette, Jim and wife Donna, daughter April and husband Phil; eight grandchildren, Chastity and husband Freddy, April and husband Brad, Jason and wife Laurie, Ashley and husband Ty, Chris and wife Mary, Amanda, Kenny, Matt; five great grandchildren, Meghan, Abbie, Autumn, Riley, Chase; and a brother, Ben and wife Mindy.
