Martha Meek's Obituary
Addie “Martha” Meek, 94, of Wheeler, died Monday, March 11, 2019, in Wheeler, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 14, 2019 in the Gageby Cemetery in Gageby, Texas with Larry Mitchell, officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7PM at Robertson Funeral Directors in Wheeler.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Martha Fort Sides Meek was born on the 22 of December 1924 on a farm in the Texas Panhandle near Nazareth, Texas. She was born the middle of nine children to Perry Lafayette Fort and Lillian Martha Coker. Martha graduated from high school in Bulah, Texas and then enrolled at West Texas College taking education classes. During WW11 the shortage of school teachers brought her an offer to teach elementary school in Watson, Texas. Where she met and married Carroll Sides. They had two children Mack and Carolyn Suzann. After his death in December 1952, she returned to school and finished her education degree. She graduated August 19, 1955 the same day she married JP Meek and moved to the Gageby Community. JP and Martha had 3 children Cindy, Phoebe and Jay Phil. Between having her own children and raising a grandson, she had kids in school for 35 years. Over the years she worked as a substitute teacher, taught Sunday School, led Children's church and led singing at Gageby Baptist Church in Canadian. She LOVED singing, making new friends and always shared her love for Her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carroll Sides (1952); her second husband, J.P. Meek (2001); her son, Jay Phil Meek; 3 brothers, G.B. Fort, Garland Fort, and Carol Fort; 3 sisters, Elnita Fort Key, Bonnie Fort Long, and Marie Fort Adams.
Survivors include 1 son, Mack Sides and his wife Linda, of Twitty; 3 daughters, Carolyn Suzann Baker, of Shamrock, Cindy Meek Hartsfield, of Wheeler, and Phoebe Meek Hartline and her husband Chuck, of Gageby; 1 sister, Doris Fort Huff Robinson, of Princeton; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be sent to local church missions.
