William "Billy" Umsted's Obituary
William “Billy” Umsted of Mobeetie, TX passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 in Arnett, OK at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 3 days. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, with Daylon Kirkland officiating, assisted by Erron Mercer. Burial will follow at Mobeetie Cemetery in Mobeetie.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Billy was born on September 20, 1955 in Erick, OK to Sydney Marvin Umsted and Lorena (Brinkley) Umsted. He grew up in Erick and joined the United States Army, serving from 1974 until 1980. He moved to Wheeler in 1980 and married Shelia Hendrix in Pampa, TX on April 26, 1986. They later moved to Mobeetie in 1997. Billy worked as a roughneck, drove a truck cross-country and was a yard manager for Turner Transportation for 15 years. He then continued working in the oilfield and worked for the City of Mobeetie until his retirement in 2022. After retirement, he continued working for the city and also for Greg Estes. He enjoyed junk collecting, going to auctions, and especially loved visiting with neighbors and spending time with his grandkids. He was a Baptist. Billy was also an avid John Wayne fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Lorena Umsted; 2 brothers, Gene and Ronnie Umsted; 1 sister, Carolyn Sue Umsted; and 1 grandchild, Trenton Ray Hunt.
Survivors include his wife, Shelia, of Mobeetie; 3 children, Jimmie Winter and wife, Danielle, of For Worth, TX, Kimberly Jones of Mobeetie and Billy Umsted and wife, Lori, of Elk City, OK; 3 siblings, Margaret Thompson of Glenpool, OK, James Umsted of Wheeler and Debbie Hendrix of Morris, OK; his grandchildren, Tracy Meadows and Jarique Mitchell, who he raised as his own, Abbigail Wright, Zachary Winter, Brody Umsted, Zane Winter, Seth Meadows, Tommy Wright, Jr., Kellie Taylor and Alex Moler; a host of great grandchildren; 1 uncle, Lee Earl Umsted of Tennessee; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
