William "Billy" Dan Scales' Obituary
Billy Scales of Wheeler, TX passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 15 days in Wheeler, TX. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 pm Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, TX, with Pastor Erron Mercer officiating. Burial will follow at the Wheeler Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler. Viewing will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Billy was born in Fort Sumner, New Mexico on November 9, 1951 to Eugene Vernon Scales and Bessie Lee Belle Riley. Billy graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1969. After graduation Billy continued to work on his family ranch and care for his grandparents in De Baca County, New Mexico. In 1981, Billy moved to the Texas panhandle where he worked in the oil field driving trucks and operating heavy machinery. In 1983 he began work at the Wheeler Feed-yard.
Billy met the love of his life, Janice Marie Albright, in November of 1984 and the two were married on July 26th, 1985. In 1986, Billy and Janice welcomed their son Carl Scales. In 1990, they welcomed their daughter Jennifer Scales. Billy could not have been more proud of his children. Billy took the opportunity to brag on his two children any chance he got and to anyone who would listen.
In 1994, Billy began his career at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Officer Scales was devoted to safety, fairness and leadership and was proud to be a correctional officer for 23 years. In his career, much like his life, he was a man of integrity and led from the behind the scenes.
In his retirement, Billy loved traveling with his wife to visit his children and much beloved gran dogs. He was happiest when surrounded by his four-legged friends and was known lovingly by Pops.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Becky Ann Blackburn; and a nephew, Byron James Scales
Billy is survived by his wife, Janice of the home; one son, Carl Scales and husband Ezra of Lubbock, TX; his daughter, Jennifer Scales of Wichita Falls, TX; chosen daughters, Lee Klonoski and husband Joe of Amarillo and Cassie Neece of Wichita Falls, TX; sisters, Bessie “Junior” Scales and Jean Scales, both of Wheeler; sisters-in-law, Kay Woodward of Wheeler and Pam Albright of Wheeler; one brother , Vance Callaway of Amarillo; nephews, Will Scales and wife Melisa of Wheeler, Bobby Blackburn of Kelton, TX, Chase Scales of Amarillo and Phillip Woodward of Canadian; niece, Tonya Douglas and husband Darrin of Amarillo; one aunt, Claryn Berry and husband Bruce of Bray, OK; and many other nieces and nephews.
