Willard Hiram Skelton's Obituary
CLARENDON SERVICES- 1:00 pm Tuesday July 5, 2005 in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Terry Tamplen, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Odessa, officiating. INTERMENT- Citizens Cemetery Mr. Skelton was born in Clarendon October 7, 1916. He married Frances Sanford in 1937. He lived in Clarendon all of his life except for two years which he spent in the Navy during World War II. He served terms on the school board, the City Council, the library board, and the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce. he was active in local politics and presided as an election judge for school, county, college and hospital boards for 35 years. He also served many years on the Saints Roost Museum board as a director and also for the Clarendon Country Club. He was a Past Master of Clarendon Masonic Lodge and served as the lodge Secretary for 14 years. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1926, served as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and was involved in different commitees through the church. Mr. Skelton will be remembered by friends throughout the Panhandle having traveled as a salesman for Bennett Printing Company of Dallas for 30 years. He retired in 1983 and enjoyed many great years with friends and family. Survivors include his wife, one son Sanford K. Skelton of Austin, two daughters Paula Odom of Fort Worth and Candace Scarborough of Abilene, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. The family requests memorials be sent to Saints Roost Museum and/or The First United Methodist Church of Clarendon.
