MEMORIAL SERVICES- 2:00 pm Sunday, March 4, 2012 in the Robertson Funeral Directors Route 66 Chapel in McLean with Rev. Thacker Haynes, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Cremation and Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean.
Private burial will be held at a later time.
Wilbur was born March 11, 1920, on the family ranch in McLean, TX, to Wilbur Watson and Ellen Anderson Wilson. He graduated from McLean High School in 1937, before continuing his formal education at West Texas State College in Canyon. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps in January 1943 during WWII. He served as a waist gunner on a B-24 bomber, flying 49 missions in the European Theater, North Africa and the Middle East until shortly before the end of the war. While serving his country he was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, a good conduct medal, air medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal , and was proud to wear the Ruptured Duck Honorary Discharge pin.
Wilbur farmed, ranched, and custom baled in the McLean area both before and after the war, continuing his ranching operations until his death.
He married Pat Durham October 5, 1993.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; Oran and Ada Durham of Amarillo, TX; Jo Ann Podzemny, husband Tim, and daughter Shaylee of Canyon, TX and Sgt Jason Podzemny of Woodbridge, VA; numerous special cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Wilbur was a member of McLean United Methodist Church.
