This man was an amazing person. He had a heart of gold and a sense of humor that was one of a kind. I loved being with him and Shirley. Wayne is a distant cousin to my mother and will be missed so very much.
There are so many of us, especially myself, that have such vivid memories of Mr. Johnson at Lela School. One of my fondest was getting to school early enough in the morning to experience his famous biscuits and gravy and sausage. Mr. Johnson (and Mrs. Johnson) had such a profound impact on my life. They are part of what made me who I am today. Mrs. Johnson, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Jesse and I loved Wayne so much. He was such a wonderful example of a Christian man. I don’t know how many times he brought food to my house when I was sick. Most often prepared by himself. He could cook a delicious ham and an even more delicious pot roast. Shirley called it their funeral roast. We missed Wayne and Shirley every Sunday that they couldnt be in church. And we will always have the best memories of Wayne.
Our family dearly loved this man. He was a very special Santa to our grandchildren for several years. Enjoy your new home Wayne and sweet memories until we see you again. Prayers for you Shirley.
Few people can say they have kept up with their grade school Principal and his wife/school counselor. Wayne and Shirley are special to many that went to Lela ISD. He will be missed. Sending good thought to Shirley.
