She was the eldest of 8 children including Loyd, Larry, Audrine, Cleta, Burney, Steve, and Trena. Wanda was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the graduating class of 1954 of Kelton High. She married John R. Vinyard of Shamrock, TX, on May 29, 1954 in Clovis, NM. J.R. and Wanda were blessed with two sons, Gary Wayne and Raymond Wesley, and a daughter Amy. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gary and Ray; 3 brothers; Larry, Burney & Steve and 1 sister; Trena. Wanda and J.R. made Shamrock their home for most of their sixty years together. They moved to Dumas in 1954 where J. R. worked for Shamrock Oil and Gas and Wanda was a homemaker. They moved back to Shamrock in 1964. J. R. was self-employed at Vinyard Water Service with his brother Durwood. Later J.R. and Wanda opened J.R. Vinyard Trucking and Wrecker Service, where Wanda was the chief bottle-washer and bookkeeper. Wanda worked for the beloved Dr. Blackketter at the Shamrock Family Care Clinic for many years and she also worked for Dr. Rose: Optometry and Dr. Doebele: Chiropractic. Wanda had many different names; wife, mother, sister, aunt, mema, and friend but they all had the same meaning…Love. She taught us that you can find joy in anything, including picking weeds. Wanda was very creative and enjoyed working with her hands and being her husband’s gopher. She loved music and dancing with J.R. Her talents were too many to name but, she was an expert seamstress and quilt maker and enjoyed making them for family and friends. If you were willing to learn she was delighted to share those talents with you. Wanda also had a love for reading and enjoyed cooking for her family. Her kitchen was a revolving door for hungry boys and girls. She volunteered for numerous activities in her church and community. She had a special love for Shamrock and its annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. She could usually be spotted wearing her favorite pair of green overalls. She coached various girls’ softball teams and was a huge Shamrock Fighting Irish fan. Wanda could typically be found in the reserved section at all home games cheering on the boys, the band, and the cheerleaders. Wanda had an infectious laugh and always had a smile on her face. She was loved and made a difference in the lives of all that knew her. She was to most awesome Mom and Mema ever! SURVIVORS: Husband – J. R.
