James Wade Garner, of Wheeler, TX passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 in Wheeler at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 20 days. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, with Rev. Erron Mercer officiating.
Cremation and Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Wade was born on May 8, 1962 in Shamrock, Texas, to James D. and Wanda (Vick) Garner. Wade grew up in Wheeler and graduated from Wheeler High in 1981. Wade worked hard for everything he had. He put family before everything, even before himself. He worked long nights and weekends to ensure that his children had everything they needed. He spent most of those years working as a mechanic for Turner Transportation, and later D.E. Chase, before his battle with Multiple Myeloma finally forced him to retire.
Wade was a fix-it-all and do-it-yourself kind of man. If anything was wrong, he would try to make it right. He spent a lot of the time he wasn't working repairing vehicles for friends, building mini wind generators and creating his own bio-diesel, along with working on dozens of other projects. In his free time, Wade enjoyed finding a lake that didn't have any cell reception to fish at. After Wade retired, he put every ounce of strength he had into fighting his cancer. He underwent years of chemotherapy and kidney dialysis. He even lost the lower portion of one of his legs, but even then, he didn't back down from the fight.
Wade is preceded in death by his father, James Darrell Garner; and his sister, Lenna Lear.
He is survived by his mother, Wanda (Vick) Garner; his wife, Michelle (Lumpkin) Garner of Wheeler; his daughter, Sarah and husband, Jair Tintori, with children Khloe Faye and Americo Wade all of Wheeler; his son, Allen Lumpkin of Wheeler; daughter, Kristen Garner of Okemah, OK; and daughter, Tammye and husband Steven Taylor of Frisco, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to 24 Hours in the Canyon Cancer Survivorship Center at www.24survivorship.org
