Vivian was born January 13, 1913 in Wheeler, Texas to Linton C. Beaty and Nora Carver Beaty. Vivian married George W. Dodson on August 16, 1933. With Vivian’s help, George farmed in Wheeler County, until 1962 when they moved to the Lubbock area. George gave up farming to work year-round at a cotton gin. Previously, he had performed seasonal work at a cotton gin to supplement the family income. After leaving the farm, Vivian worked at a nursing home in Brownfield, Texas. George and Vivian retired to Shamrock, Texas in 1976. After George’s death in 1986, Vivian moved to the Houston area to be around her son and his family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who exemplified Christ-like love. As a grandmother she was always available to care for and teach her grandchildren life lessons. Her positive influence is evident in the priorities and personalities of her adult grandchildren today. She delighted in getting to know the people who worked around her, and especially those who helped her in some way. In her later years, she was known as a “sweetheart” by the staff members of the nursing home where she lived. She retained her excellent memory amd mental ability until the last few weeks of her life. Vivian never expressed any fear of death or apprehension about the afterlife. She was humbly secure in her relationship with Jesus Christ her savior. Although she loved life and made the best of a life that seemed to bring her hardship and tragedy, she was ready to go home with Jesus years before her time finally arrived.
