Virgina Ann Payne's Obituary
Ann Payne, 81, went to be with the Lord July 4, 2015. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Shamrock at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8.
Ann was born June 4, 1934, in Childress, Texas, to Virgie Allen Williams and Denver Colorado Powell. Ann was raised in Turkey, Texas where she graduated from high school at the age of 16 and moved to Shamrock, where she was a secretary for West Texas Utilities. She met the love of her life, Gene Payne, and they married on April 4, 1953. Later in their journey together, Gene was Ann’s devoted caregiver. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2013. The two raised their family in Shamrock, where they were known for their generous compassion to others and their love and never-ending respect for each other. Ann worked in the office at the Shamrock Clinic for over 20 years and volunteered in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, VBS, Mission Friends, Girls Ambassadors, and in the church nursery caring for countless little ones that were so precious to her. Ann was known for her kindness, patience, and sense of humor. She enjoyed arrowhead hunting, reading, crocheting, visiting the Oregon coast and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Her husband, Gene, and her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Kent Payne and wife Becky, of Blanchard, Oklahoma; two daughters, Brenda Dyson and husband Ronnie, of Shamrock, and Carol Bentley and husband Ricky, of Bishop Hills; a brother, Johnny Powell of Shamrock; a sister-in-law Colleene Swedlow of Vida, Ore; six grandchildren Kyle Payne and wife Leane of Fairfield, Kelsey Payne of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kody Shipe and husband Tyler of Moore, Oklahoma, Amanda Dyson and fiancée Kevin Lai of San Francisco, Candace Crowell and husband Travis of Lake Tanglewood, and Ryan Bentley of Bishop Hills; and two great-grandchildren, Kynzee and Korbyn Payne of Fairfield.
