In Loving Memory of our Mother, Veta Mae Tims, who reached out her hand to her Heavenly Father at 8:40 am on July 14, 2009, we rejoice that she was face to face with Jesus a moment later and she is now safe in his arms with no pain.
Celebration of life services will be at 2:00 pm in the Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories in Clarendon, Texas on Friday, July 15, 2009. Rev. Bryan Knowles and Chaplain Jeff Messer will be officiating.
Mother was ninety-six years old. She was born March 19, 1913 to William and Hattie Morgan in Seymour, Texas. Mother married our Daddy, Willie Grey Tims on October 11, 1930. Mother was a member of the Martin Baptist Church in Clarendon. Our Daddy was the world’s best farmer and Mother was right by his side during the hard times of the Depression and the Dust Bowl Era. They taught us about family, moral and work values. We knew the meaning of being a friend to others by the example they left us. We experienced the art of giving, because our Mother and Daddy gave of themselves to us three girls and everyone else they came across. Mother went without things herself so we could have the things we needed. We knew we were loved and cared for by our Mother. Mother was the last of twelve brothers and sisters.
She was fondly known as “Granny” by everyone. Her gift of hospitality was her trademark. She could prepare a true-course meal in a few minutes if you just dropped by to see her. At family gatherings, she was always standing at the back door, holding it wide open and welcoming us home with her smile.
Everyone, far and near, loved her red beans, fried “taters”, cornbread, lemon and pecan pies, peanut brittle, and many more goodies. She made our clothes of feedsack material and we thought we were the prettiest girls in school.
She was of the “greatest generation” the tough, hard-working people who made it through very hard times. She always said, “If me and Daddy could make it, so can you.” The family wishes to thank all the “angel” nurses and everyone else who cared for our Mother for six years at Bivins Memorial Nursing Home.
Also to the Hospice Care of the Southwest for their loving concern for Mother during her last few days. Thank You.
Mother was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Willie Grey Tims; 11 brothers and sisters; and 3 son-in-laws.
Mother is survived by 3 daughters, Edna Osburn Durbin of Amarillo, Nelda Nance of Krum, Texas, and Doris Berry of Amarillo; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
We will miss you, Mother but as a family we rejoice in your life as our Mom, and we celebrate now your journey with the Lord Jesus Christ. We love you, Mother. See you soon.
