Vera was born January 20, 1940 in San Francisco, CA to Odis and Christine (Bryant) New. Although born in California, she spent most of her childhood in Hobart, OK, where she lived with her mother, her brother and her maternal grandparents. She also met her husband, Don Biggers, in Hobart. Don offered to give Vera and her cousin a ride home from a local event called Teen Towns. When Vera hopped into Don’s 1949 Chevy Coupe, neither one of them could have known that the two of them would share fifty-four beautiful years of marriage together, until Don’s passing in 2012. Vera and Don married at age twenty in 1960 and a year later, their first son, David was born. In the following years, they had two more sons, Greg and Daren, and also adopted their grandson, Dusty. Vera was a loving mother and she enjoyed her family very much. In addition to her family, Vera also formed lifelong bonds with dear friends including Janie and Troy Phelan and Brenda Bond, with whom she shared countless evenings sitting on the Phelan’s porch. Vera was a fixture of her longtime hometown of Shamrock, TX, where she lived on Madden Street. She managed the family’s store, Mahnken Drug Store on Main Street, working alongside her husband Don who was the store’s pharmacist. Vera’s passing will be felt deeply by the Shamrock community, as well as many others who enjoyed her good-natured spirit, her distinctive laugh and her loving care. However, she will live on in their memories because she was such a special person. Vera loved her family, friends and community very much and made a difference in many people’s lives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Odis New and Christine New Autry; her husband, Donald Biggers; and her brother, Randy Autry.
Survivors include her sons, David Biggers and wife, Sandy of Pittsburgh, PA, Greg Biggers and wife, Vicki of North Richland Hills, TX, Daren Biggers and wife, Ashley of Gunnison, CO and Dusty Biggers and wife, Kate of Cordell, OK; her brother, Kenneth New and wife, Bonnie of Enid, OK; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Chance Biggers and his daughter, Nevaeh Biggers; Alissa Mead and her son, Collin Mead; Evan Biggers; Evan King; Elliot King; Olivia Biggers; Luke Biggers; and Caroline Biggers.
