Velda Anderson Miller's Obituary
Velda Anderson Miller of Wheeler, TX passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025 in Wheeler at the age of 93 years and 11 months. Funeral Services will be at 10:00AM on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Wheeler, with Rev. Rodney Weatherly officiating. Interment will follow at Kelton Cemetery in Kelton, TX.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Velda was born August 30, 1932 in Wheeler, TX to Albert and Lila Anderson. She was the first baby born in the Wheeler Hospital. She graduated from Kelton High School in 1951 and was the Valedictorian of her class. The following month, on May 19, 1951, Velda married Dudley Vernon Miller. They celebrated 71 years of marriage before his passing in 2022. She worked as a hairdresser, briefly in Borger, TX, then later for many years in Wheeler after settling there in the 1970’s. Velda was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church in Wheeler, where she spent many years assisting with Children’s Church. In addition to her church, Velda was very active in her community. She served on the Wheeler School Board and was in the Cowbells for many years. She was an avid supporter of her children in all of their school activities over the years.
Velda was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lila Anderson; her husband of 71 years, Dudley Vernon Miller; her daughter, Denise Melton Hill; 2 brothers, Wayne Anderson and A.J. Anderson; and 2 sisters, Barbara Anderson and Joyce Lynch.
She is survived by two daughters, Stacey Horton and husband, Luke of Wheeler, TX and Melonia Simmons of Round Rock, TX; one son, Wayne Miller and wife, Elisa of Houston, TX; two sisters, Glenda Groves and La Trricia Shirley; grandchildren, Keri Beers, Whitney House, Josh Miller, Macie Cervantez, Melissa Mata, Nick Melton, Racheal Medlock and Mitchel Horton; great-grandchildren, Jake Beers, Kyleigh House, Brynleigh House, Skylar Hurley, Grayson Miller, Sadie Miller, Arthur Cervantez, Breighanna Laub, Jacey Mata, Auston Melton, Landon Melton, John Helton, Jordan Medlock and Rylie Medlock; one great-great grandchild; dear loved one, Kim Miller; and very special friend, Patty Brooks.
