Vada Ellen Matthews' Obituary
Vada Ellen Matthews, 100, of McLean died Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Pampa.
Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Robertson’s Route 66 Funeral Chapel in McLean with Rev. Ronnie Ferguson, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean.
Vada was born on July 29, 1917 in Grand Prairie to James Wesley and Minnie Effie Jordan Trout. She married Willard Earl "Jack" "Uncle Bud" Matthews on June 25, 1938 at the First Baptist Church in McLean. She was a resident of McLean for most of her life where she attended First Baptist. She enjoyed farming, fishing, and camping. She loved animals and was a great storyteller. Family Easter egg hunts were held every year on her farm. She was a true pioneer woman. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the Pampa Nursing Center that took great care of Vada for the last five years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mama Susie Trout; her husband; two brothers Wesley Trout and Thomas Trout; two sisters, Myrtle Holloway and Bertie Lee Smith; and six brother-in-laws Ralph Alexander, Everett “Chock” Smith, Buddy Holloway, Ray Bible, Willie Johnson, and Johnnie Taylor.
Survivors include her five sisters, Maudie Alexander of Lefors, Joyce Ortega and husband Julian of Amarillo, Bonnie Baker and husband A.J. of Amarillo, Donna Fulton and husband James of Pampa, and Susie Ferguson and husband Cecil of Pampa; two sister-in-laws Jennie Trout of Amarillo and Anna Trout of Burkburnett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to your local fire department/first responders.
