Tommy Lynn Edwards' Obituary
CLAUDE SERVICES - 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church in Claude with Rev. Tom Stribling, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Happy, & Rev. Mindy McLanahan, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Miami, officiating. INTERMENT - will follow with Masonic Rites by the Claude Masonic Lodge # 719, AF&AM in Claude Cemetery in Claude. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon & Claude. Tommy was born on June 12, 1949 in Silverton, Texas to RA “Eddie” & Wiletta Posey Edwards. He graduated from Silverton High School and attended college at South Plains College. He married Janet Bishop on Aug. 31, 1968. He farmed and ranched in Friona before going into the insurance business. He received his LUTCF certification and qualified for many Allstar and Round Table trips through his life sales. Tommy lived in Dalhart for many years before moving to Claude over 7 years ago. He taught Sr High School for 10 years and helped with the youth group for 16 years. He was a past XIT director in Dalhart and a member of the Claude Masonic Lodge #719, AF &AM. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Claude, were he sang in the choir and was active in all area of ministry. He had a great love for cutting horses and lived the cowboy life. His deep faith in God helped him through his long battle with cancer. Tommy used his struggle with cancer to help many people and through his experimental treatments his prayer was that new treatments could be found. Tommy loved life and never met a stranger and will be greatly missed.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his father; and a brother, Gary Edwards. SURVIVORS - his wife, Rev. Janet Edwards of Claude; his mother, Wiletta Ritter and husband Henry of Dalhart; 2 daughters, LeaAnn Lust and husband Tim of Abernathy, & Kay Lynn Miller and husband David of Lubbock; a son, Lony Edwards and wife Lori of Amarillo; a brother, Freddie Edwards and wife Jan of Petersburg; 7 grandchildren, Ty, Dru, Renae, Autumn, Vanessa, Ethan, & Jaden; & a special daughter, Buckie Baker & husband Mike & their children, Nash & Cameron, all of Claude.
