Steven Kent Stokes' Obituary
Steven Kent Stokes, 65, of Wellington passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023 in Amarillo.
Memorial services will be Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 10:00 AM in Calvary Christian Church with Mark Thomas, officiating.
Cremation and services are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.
Steven was born in Dumas on December 13, 1957 to Kenneth and Juajaun (Stevens) Stokes. He was an athlete from an early age and played Little League baseball from Elementary through Junior High. Steven attended and graduated from Shamrock High School in 1977, where he participated in football, basketball and track.
He married Lisa Meares in the summer of 1977. They were blessed with the birth of a daughter Heather Dawn (Stokes) Mullin.
Steven worked pipeline jobs as a welder for several years. He then worked at Pantex in Amarillo where he was a guard and later was a member of the SWAT team there. He continued playing softball for several years. When he retired, he became a deputy for the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office. He later began working on pipelines and worked several positions.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, B.L. (Buster) Stokes and Eula Faye (Tate) Stokes and Beuron Stevens and Frankie (Westmoreland) Stevens.
Steven is survived by his daughter, Heather Mullin and husband Matthew, two miracles that he called grandsons, Isaac and Luke Mullin all of Elkhart, Indiana. He had been living in Wellington for the past few years with his Uncle Dale and Aunt Janet Stevens. He is survived by two sisters, Lynnette and Mark Thomas of Shamrock and Julie and Gary Hrbacek of Apache, Oklahoma. One niece, four nephews, one great niece and five great nephews. His Aunt Della Mae Stokes of Spring; Uncle Gene and Aunt Barbara Stokes of Round rock and many cousins and extended family by blood and by love.
