Steven Robert Brass' Obituary
Steven Robert Brass, 75, of McLean died Tuesday, September 3, 2019 in Amarillo.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, September 6 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in McLean with Rev. Thacker Haynes, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean.
Steven was born on August 24, 1944 in Portland Oregon to Robert and Marion Hawkes Brass. He grew up in a ranching family in Coldwater, Kansas. After graduating high school, Steve enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served from 1963-1966. During this time, he served one tour as a radio telegrapher in Vietnam. He then attended Southwestern College in Winfield Kansas, where he excelled in football and tennis. He graduated with a degree in business management with an emphasis in economics.
He married Patricia Smith on July 17, 1970 in Kismet, Kansas.
In 1973, Steve and Patti moved to McLean, where he managed the Brass RO Ranch. He was involved in the Beefmaster Cattle Industry for twenty years. From 1986-2001, Steve worked as Foreman of the Sitter Ranch. From 2001-2016, he was Foreman of the Dyer Family Ranch in McLean.
Steve was known for his meticulous and thorough work ethic along with a thoughtful demeanor.
Steve was a passionate musician, gifted in playing the guitar and piano. He shared his love of music by playing in various bands over the years, but most notably playing at the Red River Steakhouse in McLean for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Chuck Brass.
Survivors include his wife, Patti Brass, of McLean; two sons, Sidney Brass of Florida and Robert Brass of Kelton; a daughter, Karen Gordy and husband Clay of Montgomery; two sisters, Martha Bewley of Pueblo, CO and Caroline Brass, five grandchildren, Madison Brass, Hope Brass, Carter Gordy, Laura Grace Gordy and Bethany Gordy and two great grandchildren, Alec Brass and Chloe Lopez.
