Some lives are measured by years, but Sidney’s is measured by the countless hearts she touched. We celebrate a life marked by strength, faith, and an extraordinary love for others.
Sidney Reye (Mills) Ferguson was born June 3, 1994. From the moment she was born, she became not only her Mom’s first born, but her built-in best friend and the two of them shared a very special relationship always. To her grandparents, aunts and uncles she was the only thing in existence. She was an amazing big sister and was prideful of it. She had a unique and special relationship with her brothers Quinton, Colton, and Landon, but was over the moon to finally have a sister, Mikayleigh.
In 2005, her life was forever enriched when Ty Ferguson became the father she had always deserved. Though not connected by birth, he embraced Sidney with unconditional love, and she proudly cherished him as her dad. Their relationship became one of the greatest blessings of her life, shaping the way she loved and was loved in return.
Sidney attended school in Shamrock, Dalhart, Erick, Fort Elliott, and Wheeler. In high school, she enjoyed basketball and theatre arts. She was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated as salutatorian of her class in 2012 in Wheeler, Texas. Directly after high school, she attended Texas Tech University. Being very intelligent and multifaceted led to changing her major from healthcare, chiropractic, and law, but finally to business. Lubbock led her to meet the love of her life, Cameron Ferguson ("Cam"). He gave her an unmistakable confidence in his love for her—a rare and beautiful certainty that never wavered. When her dad first met Cam, he recalls saying, “I think I’m gonna like this one, baby girl,” and he was right. Though their years together were far too short, they shared a love deeper than many experience in a lifetime. Through every season, especially the hardest ones, Cam cared for Sidney with unwavering devotion, tending to her in every way with a love that was steady, selfless, and true. Despite the challenges she faced, he made her the happiest she had ever been in her life.
To know Sidney was to know genuine kindness. She had a rare gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved. Whether someone had known her for years or had only recently met her, she had a way of making them feel like family. Sidney believed that life’s greatest gifts were often found in its simplest moments. Whether she was sharing a favorite recipe, preparing a meal, laughing around the table, taking a spontaneous road trip, or spending hours talking with family and friends, she had a remarkable way of making ordinary moments unforgettable. Those who knew Sidney remember her radiant smile, quick wit, infectious laugh, warm hugs, and generous heart. She was the friend who checked in, showed up during life’s hardest moments, celebrated others’ successes, and quietly carried burdens alongside those she loved. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, heard, and important. Even while facing significant challenges of her own, Sidney continued to put others first. Her compassion never faded, her generosity never wavered, and her concern remained focused on those around her. She demonstrated quiet courage, resilience, and grace, inspiring countless people through the way she lived each day.
More than anything, Sidney loved deeply. Friends became family, children became part of her heart, and strangers quickly became friends. Her legacy is not defined by the illness she endured, but by the love she freely gave, the laughter she shared, the meals she prepared, the friendships she treasured, and the countless lives she changed simply by being herself.
She is preceded in death by her (BopBop) Rhonda Ferguson, Aunt Mona Stanford, Aunt Angela Robinson, Uncle Rusty Ferguson, and (PePaw) Monte Mills.
Sidney is survived by her beloved husband, Cameron Ferguson; her parents, Ty and Christi Ferguson; her grandparents: “Nanny,” Kay McManus; “Papa,” Charlie Oren; and “Grandaddy,” Gene and Vicki Ferguson; her siblings, Quinton and wife Abigail Mills, (Remington) Colton Saavedra, and Landon and Mikayleigh Ferguson; her beautiful niece, Magnolia; her father-in-law, Jimmy Ferguson; her beloved aunts and uncles: Tyler and Dodie McIntyre, Charlie and Tiffany Stanford, Mark and Mandy Meadows, and Gene and Alicia Kirkland; her cousins: Trenton, Morgan, Colby, Brandon, Brenton, Easton, Kelton, Landry, Tatum, Barrett, Sebastian, Kenneth, and Braxxton; as well as her extended family, countless cherished friends, and extended relatives from the Monte Mills Family.
