Sheran Beth Smith was born on October 29, 1944, in Wheeler, Texas, to Sherman and Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) Smith. When she was five years old, her family moved to Shamrock, TX – a community that would remain her lifelong home. She attended Shamrock school and was actively involved throughout her high school years. She proudly served on the Annual Staff, participated in Chorus and Pep Squad, and held the role of Secretary for F.H.A. She was also honored as both Halloween Queen and Queen of the Jewels. She graduated from Shamrock High School in 1963.
Following high school, Sheran devoted herself wholeheartedly to being a homemaker and raising her three daughters, creating a loving and stable home. Being a mother was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she took deep pride in nurturing her children. Her joy only grew as she welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding endless happiness in attending their events, celebrating milestones, and sharing in their accomplishments.
Sheran began working outside the home once her daughters were older. She spent many years in the banking industry at First Bank and Trust and later worked briefly at Amarillo National Bank. She also worked for Shamrock Greenhouse & Floral and Royce Cantrell Corporation for several years before retiring her career at Shamrock General Hospital in 2022.
Sheran was highly involved in her community, generously volunteering her time with organizations such as the Shamrock Ex-Students Association, the Shamrock Community Education Foundation (SCEF) for the Shamrock Student Memorial, and the Route 66 Historical Group. She had a deep love for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, and one of her most cherished traditions was decorating for the annual St. Patrick’s Banquet. A celebration she loved sharing with family and friends where her enthusiasm and festive spirit had a way of bringing people together.
A lifelong Baptist, Sheran grew up attending First Baptist Church and later worshiped at Calvary Christian Fellowship in Shamrock. After retirement, she spent Sunday mornings watching church services from home while following along in her Bible. She was a collector of meaningful family keepsakes and was especially known for her love of Elvis Presley and Gone with the Wind, accumulating an extensive collection of memorabilia from both.
She loved music from the 1950s through the 1980s and often said her therapy was driving around town listening to her favorite songs while enjoying a McDonald’s frappe. She cherished the simple pleasures in life – enjoying her morning coffee with a honey bun, visiting on Facebook, and regular phone calls with her lifelong best friends, Ann Jones and Sue Herndon.
Above all, Sheran loved her family with her whole heart—they were everything to her. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, deep devotion and love of family, and the unmistakable joy and sparkle she brought to everyone she met.
Sheran was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Mary Elizabeth Smith; and her three brothers, Billy Lewis Smith, Richard Lee Smith, and Robert Harms Smith.
Sheran is survived by her three daughters: Katrina Ann Cullers of Darrouzett, TX; Jerilyn Beth Ragan and husband Stacy of Decatur, TX; and Kendra Lea Sharp of Arlington, TX. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Kayla Ridgway and husband Todd, Jerrad Segura, Shelby Cullers, Sherilyn Segura, Austin Sharp and wife Kaitlyn, Bailey Sharp and fiancé Patch Powers, and Zane Ragan; four great-grandchildren: Hollis Ridgway, Sloane Ridgway, Grayson Baker, and Gavin Baker; one brother, Jerry Allen Smith and wife Doris; cousins, several nieces and nephews; and her very special lifelong friends, Ann Jones and Sue Herndon.
