Sandra Eckert Woodard's Obituary
Sandra Eckert Woodard 1946 – 2024
Sandra Eckert Woodard, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024. Born on November 17th in 1946, in Clayton, New Mexico, to Johnnie Eckert and Bobby Bobbit Eckert, Sandra was the eldest of five siblings: brothers Alan Eckert and Robert McKee, and sisters Linda and Cheri. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1965 and embarked on a life full of hard work, cherished stories, and boundless love for her family and friends.
Sandra held various jobs over the years, from food service to labor positions, but it was her time as a waitress that left an indelible mark. Working at a truck stop diner in the late 1960s and early 1970s, she befriended many travelers, including legendary musician B.B. King, who affectionately called her the "bubble gum lady." Sandra’s stories of her encounters with King, including holding his iconic guitar Lucille, exemplified her knack for forging memorable connections and sharing her life’s adventures with others.
Sandra’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to many children who lovingly called her “mom” through the years, including Sharon Jimerson, Leslie Bush, Butch James, Charles "Chuck" Hardgrave, Suzy VanRault, Selinda Taylor, Robert "Bobby" Woodard, Heather Woodard, and Christina Ruffin, as well as others who came into her life and heart. Her love for her children extended to her 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, with whom she delighted in spending time and sharing conversations. Sandra’s nurturing spirit extended to numerous nieces, nephews, and many others she held dear as her own through the power of love.
Sandra was preceded in death by her father Johnny Eckert, mother Bobbie Eckert, stepfathers Bill McKee and Charlie Myers, husbands James Bush and Steve Woodard, brother Allen, sister Cheri, son Kevin Woodard, grandson Christopher Sargent, and many other beloved family members.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Robert McKee, and countless others who were touched by her warmth and kindness.
Sandra’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and the countless cherished memories she shared with those lucky enough to know her. While she has drawn her last breath on earth, her first in heaven marks a new chapter of peace and eternal joy. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who loved her.
