Sammy Elbert Dennis, 77, of Clarendon, TX passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 in Clarendon.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, March 22, 2025 in White Church Cemetery in Merkel, TX.
Family and Friends will meet at Skeet’s Texas Grill 1207 N. 7thSt Mekel, Texas at Noon Saturday, March 22, 2025

Sam was born in Big Spring, TX on March 26, 1947 to Luther and Linda (Pahmyer) Dennis. He graduated from Cross Plains High School. Sam grew up on a ranch which led him to love working cattle and riding horses. Sam married the love of his life, Mary Christine Rhodes, on May 8, 1966 in Old Mexico. The couple had two children together, Terry and Tammy. The family lived in Odessa for many years and Sam drove hot shot trucks in addition to being a welder. Sam loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and kayaking were his favorite pastimes. Sam and Mary moved to Clarendon in 2017 before Mary’s passing in 2018. Sam is now reunited with his wife who he deeply missed as well as his beloved dog, Katie. Sam’s faith had grown over the last few years as he attended Sandell Ministries in Clarendon.
Sam is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary; parents, Luther and Linda Dennis; biological mom, Mary Thompson; 3 brothers, Danny Thompson, Ramond Dennis, and Doug Thompson; and 2 sisters, Derenyda Thompson, and Juanita Wheeler.
Survivors include his son, Terry Dennis and wife Shawna of Odessa; daughter, Tammy Morrow and husband John of Clarendon; brother, Don Thompson of Munday, TX; 9 grandchildren, Josh Wright, James Dennis, Kody Cartwright, Samantha Gallegos, Logun Dennis, Brittney Vacek, Nicholas Overstreet, Taylor Schwertner, and Kenneth Overstreet; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
