Sammie Lee Coberly's Obituary
Sammie Lee Coberly, 93, of Wheeler, TX, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 in Wheeler. Graveside services will be at 2:00PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, with Rev. Leonard Gonzalez, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Sammie was born on October 29, 1930 in Borger, TX to William S. and Mary Lee (Freeman) Shipley. She grew up in Hutchinson County and graduated from Phillips High School, where she was active in Band and was the lead Twirler. She attended Ark Tech College for two years. She married Billy Sam Coberly on December 13, 1952 in Clayton, NM. Throughout her life, Sammie held several jobs, She spent 27 years working as a Purchasing Agent, 12 of those years at the Wheeler Hospital. She also worked for 2 years each at Pampa News, Daisy-Heddon and at Walmart as a Department Head in the Accounts Receivable Department. She also worked for 3 years at Celanese. She had lived in Wheeler since 1986 and was a member of the Wheeler First Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Lee Shipley; her husband, Billy Sam Coberly; 1 brother, William “Bill” Shipley; and a grandson, Mathew Coberly.
Survivors include her son, Michael Coberly and wife, Tanya; 2 grandchildren, Sam Coberly and wife, Cayla, of Hereford, TX and Jennifer Ham and husband, Roe, of Williamsburg, NM; and 4 great grandchildren, Reace Ham and Tucker Ham, both of Williamsburg, NM and Mattie Coberly and Creelie Coberly, both of Hereford, TX.
