CLARENDON SERVICES - 2:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2009 in Robertson Chapel Of Memories with Rev. Janet Edwards, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Claude, officiating. INTERMENT - Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Sam Porter Hawkins, Jr., 80, of Clarendon and formerly of Borger, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at his home in Clarendon. Mr. Hawkins was born October 26, 1929 in Olustee, Oklahoma to Sam Porter Hawkins and Amanda Pauline Gilpatrick Hawkins. He was raised in Martha, Oklahoma and was a long time resident of Borger before moving to Clarendon several years ago. He had worked as a welder for various petroleum related companies for most of his life including Phillips Petroleum and Tri-State Industries. He was a true “old west” cowboy at heart and loved the history and the music of that era. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and everything related to the great outdoors. He was a member of the Church of Christ. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his parents; and a brother, Robert “Bob” Hawkins in 2005. SURVIVORS - two daughters, Vicky Robertson and husband Patrick of Clarendon, Sonya Shieldknight and husband Charles of Spearman; one son, Sam P. Hawkins III and wife Lisa of Lafayette, Louisiana; a special friend and love of his life, Faye Naylor of Hedley; a brother, Kenneth Hawkins and wife Doris of Purcell, Oklahoma; a sister in law Joan Hawkins of Hollis, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Chuck Robertson and wife Lindsey of Clarendon, Jeff Millican and wife Erika of Dallas, Lori Klinke and husband Alex of Amarillo, Samantha Holcom of Weatherford, TX, Bobby Hawkins and wife Holly of New Orleans, Louisiana; 7 great grandchildren, Jaxon Robertson, Kinslee Millican, Wesley Millican, Rylee Klinke, Ashton Klinke, Madison Wyley, and Jacob Holcom; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
