Ronnie was born to Joseph Raymond (JR) and Ernestine Holder Morris on
June 23, 1944, in Clinton, Iowa while his Dad was serving in the U.S. Army.
Ronnie got to Texas as soon as he could and had been a Texan for over 79
years. His parents lived in Wolfforth, Texas and preceded him in death. He was
also preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Foy and Johnnie Sue Young of
Memphis, Texas. Ronnie has lost many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,
cousins, and dear friends. He also lost three special and well-loved dogs: Lady,
Gunner, and Shep.
In January of 1965, Ronnie met his future wife, BettyAnn Young of Memphis,
Texas, at Lubbock Christian College. Ronnie and BettyAnn were married on
December 18th of the same year, making this anniversary their 59th Wedding
Anniversary minus 23 days!
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife and his two sons Ronald Dean Morris Jr.
and wife, Crystal of Hutto, Texas and Michael Wayne Morris and wife, Julie of
Memphis, Texas. “Pop” had four grandchildren; Ronald Dean Morris, III (Trey)
and wife, Neele of Vilseck, Kaiserslautern, Germany, Casen Morris of Memphis,
Texas, Tori Morris of Hutto, Texas, and Katelyn Morris of Memphis, Texas. He
had two brothers, Rik Morris and wife, Beki of Round Rock, Texas and Kim
Morris and wife, Lori of San Antonio, Texas, one sister Tanya Tittle and husband
Todd of Seminole, Texas, and one sister-in-law, Alice Kay Roden of Memphis,
Texas.
After graduation from Texas Tech University, Mr. Morris taught Vocational
Agriculture at Memphis High School from 1967 through 1974. Many of his
former students still live in and around Memphis and have fond memories of
their time with Mr. Morris, aka “Mercury Morris”. After leaving MHS, Ronnie
worked at Acco Seed Company in Plainview before moving to Bastrop. Ronnie
spent 35 years in the seed industry with different companies while in Bastrop.
He was named Salesman of the Year multiple times. Ronnie loved to travel and
through his work he and BettyAnn explored the world and most of the United
States. Before moving back to Memphis after 50 years away, Ronnie and Betty
Ann had the opportunity to meet and grow to love many people from all over the
United States.
Ronnie had a true servant's heart. After his retirement, he was the “wind
beneath his wife’s wings”, as she was the Executive Director of the Rural Chief
Appraiser’s Association. Ronnie was instrumental in helping with the rebuilding
of Bastrop after the catastrophic fires of 2011. He was faithful and devoted to
God throughout his life and had the opportunity to serve as a deacon and elder
while in Bastrop. Ronnie was known for having an open, caring heart and
listened to anyone in need. One of “Pop’s” greatest blessings was having the
honor of baptising two of his grandchildren. Ronnie’s hobbies included fishing,
golfing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He
will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorials can be made to three organizations that were dear to Ronnie: Heart
of Texas Church of Christ Building Fund of Bastrop, Texas; Memphis Church of
Christ Building Fund; or Program for Humanitarian Aid.
