Robert Alfred Whittington's Obituary
Robert “Bob” Alfred Whittington, 95, of Goodnight, TX, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 in Amarillo.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10 AM Saturday, July 22, 2023 in Robertson Saints’ Roost Chapel in Clarendon.
Bob was born on June 10, 1928 in Quentin, OK, to John Adlai and Saphrona Ann (Miller) Whittington. Bob was raised in Quentin, OK before moving several times throughout his teenage years. He married his wife of 63 years, Mary Inez (Gracey) Whittington, on July 28, 1956.
Robert served in the Navy as a member of the U.S.S. Orion. Later, he worked for Pantex for 25 years until his retirement. Bob enjoyed gardening, playing guitar, and singing. He also loved old cars, especially his Mustang. He and Mary loved being “Poppa and Nonie” to their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Saphrona Whittington; wife, Mary Whittington; three sisters, Opal Griffin, Lee Appel, Wilma Serdahl; and one brother, John Whittington.
Bob is survived by two sons, Mark Hanson and wife Jackie of Goodnight, Robert Whittington, Jr. of Goodnight; two daughters, Susan Bilbrey of Amarillo, and Linda Black and husband, Tim, of Claude; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
