Bobby was born January 11, 1952, in Groom, Texas, to Mack and Patricia Anne Richards. He graduated from Memphis High School in 1970. He went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1972. After his time in the military, Bobby returned to Texas and worked on the family farm. He later pursued careers with GTE Telephone Company and as a radio DJ. Bobby was known for his quick wit and infectious laugh—he could always be counted on to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke. Over the years, Bobby lived in Corpus Christi and eventually made his home in Amarillo at the Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home, where he formed many close friendships.
