Robert Lee Jones' Obituary
Robert Lee Jones, of Wheeler, TX, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026 in Wheeler at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 1 day. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Wheeler, with Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler.
Robert was born on August 20, 1940, in Wheeler, Texas, to Willis G. Jones and Annie Laura (Harris) Jones. He attended school in Mobeetie and later graduated from Kelton High School in 1958.
On June 2, 1962, Robert married Ann Goodwin. They shared 63 years of marriage and were blessed with four sons, who took much of his time and heart. Robert was a dedicated and loving father who often did without so his family would have what they needed. Providing for his family was always his top priority.
Throughout his life, Robert worked hard and wore many hats. He drove a truck, worked in the carbon black industry, worked for the State Highway Department , worked as a custodian at Samnorwood and later Wheeler schools. He eventually joined Arkla Gas, which led to a transfer to Oklahoma City. After retiring, he returned to Wheeler to help family with fuel, flowers, and pipeline work. Robert was truly a jack of all trades including building a house from the ground up.
Robert was a proud Mustang fan and witnessed three state championships. He loved music and enjoyed playing bass with his buddies. He also had a talent for painting and he wrote a book, “Fading Times,” for his grandchildren detailing his life and times. Above all else, Robert’s greatest joy in life was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Annie Laura Jones; a granddaughter, Haley Ann Jones; and his brothers and sisters, Billy Jones, Christine Hoosier, Jimmy Jones, Patsy Sue Jones, and Charles Ray Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Jones of Wheeler, Texas; his sons, Bobby Jones and wife Tammy of Wheeler, Larry Jones and wife Christie of Lake Tanglewood, Ronny Jones and wife Sherri of Wheeler, and David Jones and wife Stefanie of Wheeler. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jordan and Ashley, Jennifer and Derek, Alisha, Tracy and Kyle, Paige and Logan, Maggie, Katie, Shelby and Jett, and Paisley; his great-grandchildren: Kohen, Tynlee, Messer, Wyatt, Brock ,Bexleigh, Dreyton, Maxon, Blakely, Ryken, and Colter. Additional survivors include two brothers, Paul Jones of Bentonville Arkansas and Chester Jones and wife Vivian of Argyle, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Paula Sue Jones of Wheeler, Texas and numerous beloved nieces and nephews - you know who you are.
Robert Lee Jones will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, love of music and unwavering devotion to his family.
