Richard Wayne "Dickie" Burton's Obituary
Richard Wayne Burton died Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in Denton, TX at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 20 days. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, with Rev. Rodney Weatherly officiating. Burial will follow at Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors in Wheeler.
"Dickie", as he was known to friends and family, was born on September 24 1950 in Pampa, TX to O.B. "Pete" Burton and Agatha "Gay" Burton. He grew up in Wheeler and enjoyed family summer vacations to his mother's hometown of St. Louis, MO to take in Cardinals baseball games. He graduated from Wheeler High School and attended West Texas State University before moving to Austin for the live music and cultural scene emerging there in the 70s. He returned to Wheeler to start a family and followed his father's footsteps into the car business to become a managing partner at Burton Ford-Mercury. Dickie was a member of the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce and coached little league baseball. Above all he was a loving father who was exceedingly proud of his two sons.
Dickie was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Gay.
He is survived by a brother, Gary Don Burton of Pampa, TX; and two sons, Keenan Burton of Dallas, TX and Trevor Burton of Denton, TX.
