I was in school with Richard for all twelve years at St. Mary’s and then Notre Dame. For no known reason, I remember in fifth grade, Ms Pettito’s class, he gave a speech during the first week of school on his Summer vacation. I think his family had gone to Hawaii. He was always quiet and a little shy but that day he nailed it.
