Raymond was born on December 28, 1935, in Lakeview, Texas, to D.C. and Lula Viola (Henson) Hall. Raymond was raised in Lakeview, where he graduated from Lakeview High School. He went on to attend Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, earning his bachelor’s degree, and later continued his education at Southwest Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Following his studies, he faithfully served as a pastor for several years.
He was married to Mary Janice Shepherd for 13 years, and together they had three children: Gorinda, Joel, and Gailya. He later married Linda Lou Gillette, and they shared 34 years of marriage. Raymond lovingly embraced her three children, Brian, Chad, and Lisa, as his own.
Raymond possessed a lifelong passion for horses and found his greatest joy in the horse show arena. He began his career specializing in cutting horses, including Ima Dandee Bar in the early 1990s. By 1992, his focus turned to the halter horse industry, where he and his wife, Linda, achieved notable success. Together, they purchased Art of Gold from Jim and Georgia Snow and carefully cultivated a distinguished program of broodmares, earning a respected reputation for producing exceptional halter horses throughout the Panhandle region. Their efforts were widely recognized, garnering numerous World and Grand Championships. Raymond entrusted Art of Gold’s accomplished show career to the respected trainer, Jason Smith. He and Linda formed lifelong friendships with these and most of the people he came in contact with through the horse industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joel Hall; and his sister, Wilma Ruth Newman.
He is survived by his daughters, Gorinda Hughes-Rendon of Lubbock and Gailya Edwards and husband John of Denver, Colorado; his stepchildren, Brian Liberator and wife Lisa, Chad Liberator and wife Lori, and Lisa Liberator-Kinney; eight grandchildren, Clint Hughes and wife Carrie, Matt Hughes and wife Gloria, Holly Loftus and husband James, Joel Rendon and wife Shellby, Katy Mason and husband Whit, Gered Vinyard and wife Sonya, Derek Vinyard, and Rebekah Edwards; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Raymond will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his faith, and his lifelong love of horses.
