SERVICES- Monday, April 11, 2016, 2:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church in Memphis with Rev. Gary Boles officiating.
INTERMENT- Fairview Cemetery in Memphis
VISITATION- Family will be receiving friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Robertson Funeral Directors in Memphis.
Almeda Raye Bailey (Raye), beloved wife, mother, sister and friend passed away, with her family by her side, on April 5, 2016. Born to Gertie Mae Stalter and Henry Stone Maddox in Memphis, Texas on October 12, 1951, Raye grew up a southern farm girl with 11 siblings.
After high school, Raye attended Clarendon College, in Clarendon Texas. On November 26, 1975, she married the love of her life, Edgar Lee Bailey, of McLean, Texas. For the next 40 years, they shared a life of love and commitment to one another and to their family.
Raye was the County and District Clerk for Hall County for over 20 years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Memphis, Texas, and she was a survivor participant in the annual Race for the Cure.
Raye was a dedicated mother to her only son, Edgar Scott “Bubba” Bailey, and was involved in all of his activities.
Raye was considered “The Rock” for all of her family and community. She was down to earth and was a generous soul, often going out of her way to help someone in need. Raye loved her family most of all and was happiest while spending time with them at the farm in McLean, Texas. Raye had a kind and gentle spirit, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
PRECEEDED- Raye was preceded in death by her parents, brothers William Glenn Maddox, James Henry Maddox, and Oran Oscar Maddox, sisters Margaret Ann Lawhorn and Emma Jo Sims and great nephew, Derrik Marshall.
SURVIVED- She is survived by her loving husband Edgar Lee Bailey of Memphis, TX, brothers Winfred Lee Maddox of Los Banos, CA, Arthur Wayne Maddox of Memphis, TX, Larry Don Maddox of Memphis, TX, Gordon W. Maddox of Turpin, OK, and Roy D. Maddox of Perryton, TX, twin sister and best friend, Omega Gaye Knox of Memphis, TX, and her only son, Edgar Scott Bailey, and wife, Ashley of Midland, TX.
The prayers and thoughts shared by many have never gone unnoticed. We express our gratitude and thanks for the unmatched generosity and kindness poured out on our family. The family is forever grateful to the Memphis Volunteer Fire Department, Hall County EMS, Donley County EMS, and the staff at Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo, Texas for the kind and gracious manner in which they treated Raye and her loved ones, particularly during her final hours.
