Randall “Randy” Riley Garner was born on February 14th, 1955, in Wellington, Texas, to Riley and Mattie Garner. Randy attended school at Samnorwood. He began working on his older sister and brother-in-law’s farm and ranch from the age of nine, where he developed his strong work ethic from an early age. He and his little growing family followed farm and ranch work from Kansas to Montana and back to Texas for work in the oil field. Randy eventually left the oil industry and changed careers to bull hauling. He was known by many as ‘Moonshiner’ during his more than 30 years as a truck driver. After a serious trucking accident, he returned to his sister’s family farm and ranch. Randy had trucking friends he considered family from Florida to Texas, and once he recovered from his injuries, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson and side-by-side ATVs with his nephew, Paul. If there was excitement to be found, Randy would find it, and if not, he’d make his own. Peepaw, as his grandkids called him, loved driving them around in ATVs and, as they got older, even blowing things up. He always had a glass of iced tea with lemon and a beloved dog by his side. If you were lucky enough to know exactly how the fresh lemon was added, you were among the special ones who knew the importance of the details. Randy liked things a certain way and wasn’t afraid to let people know. His family and friends will never forget the many lessons he taught them. How to work hard, how to laugh loudly, how to stand your ground, and how to enjoy the simple things in life. Beneath his rough edges was a deep love for his family, shown in his own unforgettable ways. Randy lived life fully, fiercely, and on his own terms, and he leaves behind countless stories that will be told for generations.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Mattie Garner, and close family members, Thurman and Paul Calcote.
He is survived by his son, Rodney Garner, and wife Tanya of Amarillo, Texas; daughter Renee Pepper and husband Duke of Canyon, Texas; grandchildren Taylor, Shana, Madalyn, Isaac, Seth, Lucy, and six great grandchildren; sisters Peggy Muncrief of Pampa, Texas, Linda Calcote of Kelton, Texas, Carol Anne Bodine of Wellington, Texas and many nephews and nieces.
