Polly was born in Amarillo, TX to Joe and Hazel (Milhoan) Batenhorst. She grew up in a few small farming towns in the Texas Panhandle, most notably Vega. She graduated high-school in Gruver, Texas in 1970. She married Harold Pollard in 1975. Even though they divorced in 1978, they were somehow able to sustain a special friendship and have always managed to be there for each other when needed. In 1984, Polly moved to Shamrock, to work with her dad at Joe’s Irish Service Center. In the mid 90’s, she moved up the hill and managed the Midway Truck and Travel Center for a few years. After that, Polly went to work as a correctional officer at the Jordan Unit in Pampa, Texas. In 2009, Polly became the Office Admin Manager at GoldStar Land Services, keeping everything and everybody in order for many years. The direct and indirect relationships built while working at the places mentioned above transformed over the years from being her co-workers to being family.
Polly was an Oklahoma City Thunder super-fan. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and hated the Dallas Cowboys. She loved watching movies, mostly the same ones over & over. She would drop everything she was doing if someone wanted to play some dominos. She loved wrapping and giving Christmas gifts to family and friends. Last, but not least, she loved going to a casino. She could sit at a slot machine for 3 days without moving, without food & water, surviving on black coffee alone. To condense Polly’s life into a sentence or two for this could be a challenging task to accomplish, but for those who knew her well, it’s really not that hard at all. She was one of the most genuine, tough, hard-working, fun-loving, unselfish human beings that you will ever know. She might punch you or she might hug you, and rarely did you know which one was coming. Once she bonded with you, you had a true dear friend for life who would do anything she could possibly do for you. There is no doubt Polly left her mark on this earth, and she will be dearly missed, kindly remembered, and often spoken about by all for years and years to come.
Polly is preceded in death by her father and mother, Joe and Hazel Batenhorst; two brothers, Mike and Danny; and a baby daughter, Polly Bea Pollard.
She is survived by her two sons, John Pollard and his wife Jenny, and Brian Batenhorst and his wife Dustie; her 4 granddaughters, Riley and Reagan Pollard, Preslie and Chelsie Batenhorst. her sister, Jeanette Batenhorst; her 2 brothers, Larry Batenhorst and Henry Batenhorst; and many nieces, nephews, other close family and dear friends.
