Peggy Jean Childress was born on October 18, 1933 in Hereford to Wesley Ross Kelley and Bonnie Vera Ward Kelley. She married James Darrell Childress on March 26, 1955 in Memphis. Peggy took great pride in being a hairdresser. She sang in her church choir and as teenager she rode barrels in the rodeo. She loved and lived for her family. She was a cheerleader at Claude High School where she later graduated. She spent most of her life in Claude until she moved to Amarillo.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY – her parents; her husband; 1 daughter Sandra Gay Childress; and 1 grandson Kenneth Scott Green.
SURVIVORS – 1 daughter Beverly Velasquez and husband Raymond; 2 sons Don Childress and wife Sandy Lynn, James Childress and wife Stacey; 1 brother Richard Kelley and wife Gayle; 8 grandchildren Tisha Keenom, Tara Childress, Kelley Green, Tonya Burrows, Leondra Beach, CJ Childress, Kayla Childress, and Robert Velasquez; and 17 great grandchildren
