Patricia Gardenhire's Obituary
MEMORIAL SERVICES – 3:30 PM Sunday, February 12, 2017 in the First United Methodist Church in Memphis with Rev. Bobby Wilson and Clint Hopping, officiating.
INTERMENT – Private Family Burial will be prior in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis.
ARRANGEMENTS - Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:00-6:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
Patricia was born February 25, 1934 in Lakeview to Lovic Phaeton and Cora Belle Alexander. She married William Anderson “Andy” Gardenhire on September 15, 1951 in Memphis. She graduated with a Bachelors degree from Wayland Baptist University where she was a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society. She later attended the University of Texas and North Texas State University where she did post graduate work in Library Science. Patricia worked as a teacher and librarian for O’Donnell, Hart, and Memphis schools prior to her retirement. She had been a resident of Memphis for 40 years where she was a member of the Memphis Atlantean Club which helped established Meals on Wheels for Senior Citizens. She also served on the committee for the City of Memphis to build the Creative Playground. Patricia served on the committee for the City of Memphis to build the new public library where she volunteered and was on the advisory board for the Library for more than 40 years. She also volunteered as a Girl Scouts Leader. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Memphis where she also was a Methodist Youth Fellowship Leader.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY – her parents; and her husband, Andy on October 23, 2016.
SURVIVORS – a son, Heath Gardenhire of New Orleans, Louisiana; two daughters, Sheila Gardenhire of Granbury and Dena Melton of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Ashley Hamm and husband TyScott of Lubbock, Jennifer Mitchell and husband Jerold of Ft. Worth, and Colt Melton of Corpus Christi; and three great grandchildren, Hadley and Lyla Hamm, and Weston Mitchell.
MEMORIALS- The family request memorials be sent to the Memphis Public Library or the Presbyterian Preservation Foundation in Memphis.
