Pat Johnson's Obituary
Pat Johnson, 99, of Memphis, TX passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025 in Memphis.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel in Memphis with Ronny Wilson officiating.
Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 9th from 9 AM – 7 PM with family receiving friends for visitation from 5 – 7 PM.
Jim Pat Johnson was born in Memphis, TX on March 26, 1926 to J.W. and Fay (Jones) Johnson. Pat’s family moved to McAllen when he was five years old, and he attended school in McAllen and Edinburg. At age sixteen, Pat joined the United States Navy on July 29, 1942. He was assigned to the 5th Amphibious Force operating landing craft in the Pacific. Pat participated in D-Day operations on the island of Guam, Leyte, Linguain Gulf, San Narcisso, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Pat received the following medals and campaign bars for his honorable duty to his country: W.W. II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense, China Service, Asiatic Pacific (Four Stars), Philippine Liberation (Two Stars), and the Philippine Presidential Citation.
After the war, Pat worked for three years as a line crewman in southern California for the Forestry Service. He then returned to Texas and married Marce Laine Cottle on January 10, 1952. The couple were married 62 years and had two daughters, Kay and Judy. During this time, Pat worked for Enserch Corporation/Lone Star Gas Division for 31 years. Pat was a member of the First Christian Church in Memphis, and was a volunteer fireman for many years. Pat could often be found tinkering around in his workshop. He enjoyed making knives, and could fix anything.
Pat is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marce in 2013; sister, Susie Morris; and great-grandson, Andrew Luna.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kay Hutcheson and husband Doug of Wolfforth, and Judy Roten of Memphis; three grandchildren, Kasey Sakmar and husband John, Lindy Loftus and husband Michael, Lee Patrick Roten and wife Kailey and their son, Henry Wells Roten; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several extended family members.
The Johnson family would like to thank the staff at the Memphis Convalescent Center for their heartfelt compassion and care provided for their father.
