Opal Mae Means, 77, of Memphis, Texas died Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Memphis, Texas.
Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 2, 2024 in the First Baptist Church in Memphis with Tyrone Campbell, officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Cremation & Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Opal was born June 29, 1947 in Memphis, Texas to Otho and Mildred Moore Rogers. She was a lifetime resident of Memphis where she attended Morningside schools in Memphis, and was a 1966 graduate of Memphis High School. She married Harvie Means on December 23, 1984 in Clarendon, Texas. She worked for GTE prior to her retirement. She was an active member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Memphis where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, and quilting and loved her kids, grandkids, and her family dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Claudia Carter; four brothers, Garfield Williams, L.D. Hall, Harry Rogers, and William Rogers; and her sisters, Georgia Dickson and Debbie Louis.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Harvie Means of Hollis, Oklahoma; a daughter, Mildred Carter of Memphis; a son, Julius Carter and wife Lana of New Jersey; a brother, Loral Rogers of Memphis; 9 grandkids, Kayla Newsome, Kyle Barber, Stacey Carter, Saveion Carter, Terrance Sims, Terrell Sims, Devin Carter, Isaiah Carter, and Courtney Weatherton; 4 great grandkids; 2 great great grandkids; a host of nieces and nephews.
