CLAUDE ROSARY- 5:00 pm Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in the St. Laurence Catholic Church in Amarillo said by Fr. Roberto Cabrera. FUNERAL MASS- 2:00 pm Thursday, January 10, 2013 in the St. Laurence Catholic Church in Amarillo with Fr. Felipe Alvarez as the celebrant. INTERMENT- Claude Cemetery in Claude. Arrangements are by Robertson Armstrong Chapel of Claude. Nicolas was born September 19, 1924 in Rosario Durango, Mexico to Juan and Asencion Lozano Chavez. He worked in the cotton gin at Pecos, Texas when he was younger, then later for the railroad in Mexico, and did farming prior to his retirement. He had been a resident of Claude the past 10 years. He trained roosters all of his life and won 3 cock fighting derbies. He was a member of the St. Laurence Catholic Church in Amarillo. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his parents; a daughter, Regina Chavez; 2 brothers, Refugio and Jesus Chavez; and a sister, Catalina Chavez. SURVIVORS - 2 sons, Jesus Manuel Chavez of Lovington, NM and Nicolas Chavez, Jr. of Claude; a daughter, Maria Maldonado of Claude; 2 brothers, Juan Chavez-Lozano, Jr. of Baelleza Chihuahua, Mexico and Luis Chavez of Hutch, NM; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.
