Nell Marie Messer's Obituary
AMARILLO / MEMPHIS Nell Marie Messer, 80, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Amarillo. A memorial service will be on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel in Memphis. Cremation and Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis. Nell was born in Memphis on December 3, 1932 to Ruel Vernon and Lillie Hazlett Messer. She attended schools in Memphis and graduated from Memphis High School. She worked at the City of Memphis until early retirement in 1994. After retiring, she became a caregiver for children and many benefited from her loving care. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and benefited from the love of her church family and the social events. Although Nell never drove a car, she loved to travel and enjoyed many trips via bus or as a passenger in the cars of family and friends. The telephone was her lifeline and she spent many hours keeping many up-to-date on the "business" in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ruel Vernon Messer and Clyde Messer, two sisters, Rena Fae Hartsell and Thelma Lee Harwell. She is survived by her niece Lily Garst and husband, Bob, of Burnet, Texas and great niece Kaye House and husband, Lynn, of Amarillo along with many other nieces and nephews to the great, great, great degree. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staffs of Legacy Rehabilitation and Living and BSA Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the First United Methodist Church in Memphis or to Legacy Rehabilitation and Living, 4033 W. 51st, Amarillo.
