Neal R. Mercier's Obituary
Neal R. Mercier, 79, of Clarendon, Texas passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 in Amarillo, Texas.
Rosary will be said at 2:00 PM Monday, November 17, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clarendon. Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 PM in the Church with Fr. Raj Malapady as the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Clarendon.
Arrangements are under the care of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Neal was born on November 24, 1945 at St. Vincent Hospital in New York City, NY, to Charles Joseph and Miriam Irma (Rosenthal) Mercier. He worked the last nine years before retirement for Anderson School for Autistic and mentally challenged children. The last four years of his career were dedicated to working in the medical department taking children to their many doctor appointments, dental visits, and surgeries. In total, he helped about 134 children, ages ranging from 8-21, during this time.
Neal moved to Clarendon, TX with the love of his life, Sarah Lynn Kovalsky, the last week of July 2009. He became editor for St. Mary’s Catholic Church from March 30, 2014 to January 12, 2020. Neal is the author of the book, “I write for Jesus” first published in 2017 and republished in 2019. He also wrote the children’s book “Jesus the Gatekeeper” published in 2019.
Neal was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sarah Lynn Kovalsky; his parents, Charles and Miriam; brother, Robert; half-brothers, Charles Jr. and Joseph; and half-sister, Mary.
Survivors include his two sons, Neal Jr., and Christopher and wife Gina; daughter, Danielle; four grandchildren, Brittany, Michael, Derek, and David; two great-grandchildren, Aurora and Rhiannon; two great friends, Roy Burgess of NY and Jacob Fangman of Clarendon. Remember a friend is a gift from God and a great friend is a blessing from God.
