Mozelle Gowdy Richburg, 99, of Memphis, Texas died Tuesday, May 1, 2024 in Memphis,Texas.
Services will be 2:30 PM Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in the Memphis Methodist Church with Dr. Stan Cosby, officiating. Graveside services will be 2:30 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Mozelle was born May 17, 1924 in Lakeview, Texas to Euna Payne Gowdy and W.M. Gowdy, Sr. She graduated from business college in Lubbock and later she married James Milton Richburg on December 29, 1945. She had been a lifetime resident of Hall County where she worked as a secretary in the insurance business for decades and a devoted homemaker. She was the matriarch of the family and was the best cook in the world, and was known for her buttermilk pies. She hosted many gatherings for friends, as well as for family. Her family always looked forward to staying with her for the holidays or family reunions. To her grandkids, she was lovingly known as Mere. She was a devoted member of the Memphis Methodist Church where she was involved in the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2019; her son in law, Larry Don Smith in 2020; a brother, W.M. Gowdy, Jr.; and a sister, Willa Dean Nivens.
Survivors include her sons, Lewis Richburg and wife Donnita of Canyon and Bill Richburg of Memphis; her daughter, Joyce Smith of Perryton; her brothers, Jim Gowdy and wife Kathy of Amarillo and Jerry Gowdy of Abilene; 7 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
The family request memorials be sent to the Memphis Methodist Church or the Snack Pack for Kids in Memphis.
