Milton Jackson Cobb's Obituary
Milton Jackson (Jack) Cobb died Sunday, November 16 in Amarillo at the age of 94.
Jack was born June 20, 1931 in Clarendon, Texas to Clarence and Mary Cobb. He spent his younger life in Donley County where the family lived and farmed, and he attended school in Ashtola.
Jack graduated from Littlefield High School in 1948 and attended West Texas State College (now West Texas A&M) for two years before joining the Marine Corps. A proud United States Marine, he served his country during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1951-53 and then in the Marine Reserves until 1961.
After the war, Jack returned to the Texas Panhandle and his family’s farm in Swisher County. He loved farming and continued to actively work into his 70s. During semi-retirement, he took a job ferrying Bluebird school buses throughout the U.S. and saw many parts of the country.
Jack married Carolyn Jones on December 20, 1961. They made their home east of Tulia. After Carolyn retired from teaching, he enjoyed traveling, especially to the western United States and favorite places like Death Valley in California. Jack also enjoyed many family trips to New Mexico over the years, as well as traveling to Denver to cheer on his favorite team, the Broncos.
Jack was a sincere Christian who loved the Methodist Church. His maternal grandfather, Reverend Daniel Milton Fitzgerald, served as a Methodist minister. Jack was a current member of The United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Cobb; son Colin Cobb of Lubbock; daughter Angela Keiser and husband John of Richardson, Texas; grandson Evan Keiser; and sister Jane Bean of Lubbock.
Jack will be laid to rest in the Rowe Cemetery in Hedley, Texas, near the graves of his parents, his grandparents D.M and Dollie Fitzgerald, and his aunt Faith Steen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tulia Methodist Church, 119 N Briscoe, Tulia, Texas or to the Rowe Cemetery Association Inc., P.O. Box 213, Hedley, TX, 79237.
